Volunteering as "Book Buddies" at Seymour Dual Language Academy
KS&R, a global marketing research and consulting firm, is committed to supporting the communities in which we live and work. One such program where KS&R employees donate their time is "Book Buddies", an initiative aimed at supporting first and second grade Syracuse school children with improving their reading prowess.
"Book Buddies" at Seymour Academy is a partnership between SYRACUSE 20/20 and the Near Westside Initiative.
Volunteers in the Book Buddies program donate one hour of their time, once a week to read with first and second graders. During that hour, Book Buddies work on vocabulary, reading, and reading-based games. "This one-to-one attention is critical to provide the extra time students need to practice and build the required confidence to be successful readers," says Mike Nash.
KS&R’s volunteer tutors for the 2014-2015 Book Buddies program include Katherine Carlson, Dan Conners, Allison Cook, Chris Dunham, Jeff Horst, Mike Nash, Stephanie Scriven, Ashley Wilson, and Denise Zotti.
"KS&R has a long and rich history of giving back to our community and those around us. Our involvement in the Book Buddies program has been a very rewarding experience for our employees," stated Nash.
