#KSRCrew Spotlight with Jonathan Nerney
Get to know the people behind the insights in our #KSRCrew Spotlight series. We sit down with employees throughout the firm to learn about their experiences, background, and what makes them tick.
In this edition, we chat with Jonathan Nerney, a Research Analyst on the Healthcare Industry team, who holds a master’s in Business Administration from Liberty University. Discover what his superpower would be, what his favorite memory from childhood is, and other insights in this Q&A.
What do you enjoy most about being part of the KS&R team?
I most enjoy the collaborative nature of being part of the KS&R team. Every team member brings a unique skill set to the table. Their education, industry experience, and lifestyle allow them to approach challenges from different perspectives. Tackling challenges from many different perspectives leads to the best insights for our clients.
How did you end up at KS&R?
When I graduated with my MBA, I knew I wanted to work in Marketing but was less certain which area of that industry interested me most. As I scoured job boards, I came across KS&R’s Apprenticeship in Market Research. This job posting reminded me of the Market Research classes I took, and enjoyed, in both my undergraduate and graduate programs. Upon acceptance of the Research Apprentice position at KS&R, I received an intense crash course in a field that I have learned to love. This apprenticeship allowed me to advance to both the Research Assistant, and now Research Analyst roles with the company.
In your opinion, what does the world need more of?
In my opinion, the world needs more compassion. Today, it seems like we are very quick to cast judgement before humbling ourselves enough to truly try and understand where someone is coming from. Ephesians 4:32 is a verse that serves as a constant reminder for me in this area, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you”.
What are you most grateful for in this moment?
I am most grateful for my wife. Being surrounded by her kindness, caring nature, and devotion is a constant encouragement for me to be a better husband, son, brother, friend, and employee. Her personality is infectious and always brightens my mood. She balances me out everywhere I need it and for that I am truly grateful.
If you could choose one superpower, what would it be and why?
This may loosely meet the definition of a “superpower,” but I would love the ability to function well with little to no sleep. Currently, my body requires a vast amount of sleep to feel remotely functional. Removing this limitation would allow me to increase my productivity and actually comprehend what people are saying before 10am.
What is your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is spending summer evenings watching the Boston Red Sox play baseball at Fenway Park with my Dad. During these trips to Fenway, he taught me to love the game of baseball and more importantly to be a loyal and proud member of Red Sox Nation in the good times (2004, 2007, 2013, 2018) and the bad times (pretty much every year other than those previously noted).
What is the best purchase you’ve ever made?
The best purchase I ever made was my dog, appropriately named “Fenway”. I got her in 2016 as an 8-week-old Miniature Schnauzer puppy and she has grown into a key member of our family. She makes a fantastic co-worker in our remote work environment. While drifting in and out of naps under my desk, she has listened in on countless kick-off meetings, report read-outs, company-wide town halls, and performance reviews. I like to think that she is just as much a member of the KS&R Crew as I am!
