#KSRCrew Spotlight with Connor Burton

In this edition, we chat with Connor Burton, a Research Analyst on the Decision Sciences & Innovation team, who holds a master’s in Economics from the University of Oregon. Discover what he could not live without, his proudest accomplishment, and other insights in this Q&A.
What do you enjoy most about being part of the KS&R team?
I really enjoy the culture of honesty and accountability that permeates every aspect of our work at KS&R. Dissenting opinions are welcomed and given consideration; mistakes are treated as opportunities to learn or improve on a process. It’s a culture I don’t take for granted.
How did you end up at KS&R?
After my master’s program, I started pursuing a career in data science and analytics. My hope was to find an opportunity where I could also apply my training in economics, and when I found KS&R I knew it would be a perfect fit. Now, every week, I get to study markets and use data to answer fun questions with folks I admire and appreciate.
What brings you great joy in your life?
Playing music. Learning a new song or writing a new tune on guitar always improves my day.
What advice would you give to yourself at age 15?
Stay on track, you’ve got places to go. Also, invest in Nvidia if you get the chance.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
Earning my master’s degree was a good challenge and a major accomplishment. I was ecstatic to graduate strong and make my family proud.
In your opinion, what does the world need more of?
Selflessness.
What are you most grateful for in this moment?
I’m dog sitting my favorite dog in the world.
Who has inspired you in your life and why?
Ursula K. Le Guin. Her imaginative fiction and personal essays have been a major influence on my worldview over the years. For me, Ursula completely redefined what stories and societies could look like. The example of her life and the ideals embodied in her work are my unstructured guide to living a compassionate, thoughtful, and fulfilling life.
If you could choose one superpower, what would it be and why?
The power to manipulate the probability of any event.
Aside from necessities, what is one thing you could not go a day without?
Music!
Would you rather live on the beach or in a cabin in the woods?
Beach, hands down.
