What brought you to KS&R?
Actually, I have been with KS&R since I graduated from Le Moyne College (Syracuse, NY) in 1991. Over the 20 years with KS&R, I have held several positions, such as: Data Manager, Director/Manager of Information Systems, Director of Data Operation, and now Principal/Director of Operations. What has kept me at KS&R for all of these years? Well, I love a challenge, learning new things, implementing solutions to support our employees and our client needs. Also, working with smart people who work hard and are as driven as me to be successful
What is your proudest accomplishment so far in your career?
My proudest accomplishment so far in my career is becoming a Principal at KS&R.
What sound or noise do you love?
I love hearing the sound of ice skate blades digging into the ice. I am a huge hockey fan/coach and love to skate.
If you had a time machine and could jump back or spring ahead, which would you do? Why?
This is a tough one to answer. I would like to jump back in time and re-visit some great times with family and friends.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Patience! I am not a very patient person, ask anyone.
Your wife has recently gone back to teaching. With four small children at home, how do you maintain your work-life balance?
With close coordination and communication with my wife and a little luck sometimes. Each week is very busy at work and at home, so our typical week starts off on Sunday night with the two of us coordinating our calendars for the coming week. This allows us to stay in-sync with each other during the week. Though there are some weeks where the life balance is challenging.
If you could have a conversation with one person, living or dead, who would it be?
I would like to have a conversation with my Grandfather Gulino who past-away three months before I was born. He was an immigrant from Sicily, Italy and became a business owner who owned a very successful construction/masonry business in Syracuse, NY. I have heard many fascinating and intriguing stories about him.
What's the most important thing you do every week?
Prioritize! Both work and home life is very busy for me, so in order to stay sane I need to make sure my week is in order. Yes, there are always curve balls, but going into the week with a plan allows me to handle the curve balls a bit easier.
What challenges is KS&R facing in the future with regard to technology and data collection?
Staying ahead of the curve! We need to leverage the latest and emerging technologies, so that we can continue to deliver relevant and informative insights to our clients. Innovation is a must. By utilizing different methods and techniques, we can demonstrate the value-add we can bring to our clients.
What is your overall take on the future of technology and data collection? Where does it go from here?
Just as we must serve our clients well, we need to enhance our technologies and operations for collecting, sharing data, and communicating results. In fact, these areas are becoming more critical to KS&R's success every day. The key is being able to identify priorities, as well as, opportunities. It is too important to ignore, and we need to understand how both emerging technologies and innovation will contribute to our success. We need to think about the transition to new data collection strategies and how to best implement the technologies to support them.
